Kundalini Yoga is the so-called yoga of consciousness. It is a techology that awakens your consciousness to bring you back to your original self. It works on the 7 chakras (energy centres), the arc line and the aura (eighth chakra)

It combines asanas (postures) with pranayamas (breathing) and mudras (hand postures) and meditations.

A Kundalini Yoga class lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes. It is structured as follows:

  1. Tune in. You chant three times Adi Mantra and Mangala Charan Mantra. Adi Mantra is Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo. This is a mantra to honour the Creation and tune into our inner guru. It brings the whole group to a common vibration as the class begins. Ong is used to express the universal vibration as it extends itself into Creation. Namo states that we have named the vibration and identify ourselves in relation to it. Guru Dev is the aspect of the transparent, invisible, and all-pervading guiding impulse in everybody. Mangala Charan Mantra is Aad Gure Nameh, Jugaad Gure Nameh, Sat Gure Nameh, Siri Gurudeve Nameh. This mantra develops the theme of the guru and declares the four stages of time through which the guru prevails; before the beginning, through the ages past, in the present and in the future.
  2. Warm up. This will prepare you for the kriya that follows. The warm-up can include, in addition to physical exercise, pranayamas (breathing).
  3. Kriya. It is a succession of postures that work on specific aspects. It is taught as Yogi Bhajan taught it.
  4. Relaxaton. It is essential to integrate the benefits of the kriya performed.
  5.  Meditation
  6. The class ends by chanting or singing three times the Eternal sun and three long Sat nam. “May the long time sun shine upon you, all love surround you and the pure light guide your way on”.
